“Ah Lemmy, I ain’t gonna be as sprightly as you are when I hit 63 (didja know he’s only 5 years younger than Dylan?)” - Jason Gross

Motorhead

For a couple of weeks during Motörhead’s U.S. headlining tour, the band’s long-time basher of skins, drummer Mikkey Dee, will be filming season one of Kändisdjungeln, Sweden’s version of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Of Here! where ten celebrities live together in the Malaysian jungle for 16 days. They are being watched by cameras 24/7 and the viewers will decide which celebrity will have to take on crazy and challenging contests. The contests will consist of everything from facing scary bugs to frightening heights. If the celebrities can overcome their phobias and fears, they can bring back food or other needed things to the jungle camp. Finally, the viewers will decide which celebrity will be the winner.

“I can’t wait to see that,” chuckles Lemmy to Canada’s Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles. “He’s in the Malaysian jungle, and he doesn’t like bugs. And I think they have to be parachuted into the f**king thing - and he doesn’t like heights either. So it’s definitely going to be worth watching.” Mikkey had agreed to do the TV show before the tour was booked. Says Lemmy, “I think he’s already had the f**king shots, the anti-tropical disease shots.”

But the tour will go on.

Velvet Revolver drummer, Matt Sorum, got the call from Lemmy and will fill in during Mikkey’s absence. Formerly of Guns N’ Roses and The Cult, Matt is a world-class musician. He and Lemmy have been friends since they toured together when Motörhead performed some dates with GN’R and Metallica years ago. Matt will come out to a few of the early tour dates to “watch Mikkey and get the idea,” says Lem. “He’ll be alright, he’s a professional.” [All Access Magazine]

Matt Sorum was the drummer at last night’s Motorhead show at Roseland Ballroom in NYC which had almost as many bands on the bill (4) as the number of dollars some people paid for tickets (5). Opening acts at the 9/9/9 show were Reverend Horton Heat, Nashville Pussy, and The Episodes who come from Ohio and have some members that aren’t old enough to drive yet. More pictures, and a few more words about the show, below…
