For a band as lush and expansive as Asobi Seksu is, you’d think it’d be hard for them to pull off an acoustic album. But that’s exactly what they’re doing with their new disc, Rewolf. And, if “Suzanne” is any indication, they’ll pull it off just fine. Sure they lose the electric guitar’s echoing hum, but they layer the acoustics nicely here, and there’s plenty of chimes and strings swirling around to stretch out the space around the quieter guitars. And Yuki’s voice, here lightly coated with some hazy static, is as bittersweet and haunting as it’s always been. But with the music slightly toned down behind her, she sounds stronger than ever up front on this track.
