The promotional campaign for Green Day’s rock opera, 21st Century Breakdown, includes a dizzying array of limited edition releases and a slew of forthcoming TV appearances. They are set to perform for an entire week on Last Call with Carson Daly in June, but on Saturday (May 16) the band members graced the Saturday Night Live studio with an appearance.

“Know Your Enemy” rigidly adheres to the timeworn Green Day formula, with catchy guitar hooks, a sing-along chorus and Billie Joe Armstrong’s sneered vocals. “21 Guns” also sounds uncannily like many of the slower songs in the band’s canon, with Billy Joe strapping on an acoustic guitar to show what an earnest fellow he truly is.
